Afghan for Benefit

Since I'm a member of Crochetville and I see lots of people with crochet blogs on there, I figured I'd start one for myself.

I recently made a small afghan for a benefit for a woman from our church who has ovarian cancer. It took me a couple of weeks to finish. I used the Diagonal Box Stitch and just randomly chose colors from a bag full of yarn that I had doing 8 rows of each. When I got to the half way point, I reversed the colors and worked my way back. I thought it turned out nicely - not beautiful but kind of nice. I did mess up when I was doing the second half by using Red Heart Celery instead of Frosty Green but luckily the colors are kind of close so hopefully the recipient of the ghan won't notice.

I added a tag to the ghan which said "This afghan was created by Sharon in a cat-friendly home using the Diagonal Box Stitch. It measures approximately 45"x55"

The inside of the tag said that I had prayed for both the receiver and the giver (if it turned out to be a gift) and I gave washing instructions.

The model in the pic is my silly, Seymour kitty.

I'm 'Mrs Twins' Sue from SIBOL! Here in the UK.
I followed your link. Thank you so much for the very kind words! It is so nice when I get positive feedback on SIBOL, and it makes my project seem even more worthwhile!
I am so glad you like the Blog. I do too! Back in January I thought of this idea and mentioned it to my friends on Mrs Twins www.suesfavouritethings.blogspot.com asking if 'maybe' my friends would like to send me a 6" square. I had the aim of making 6 Blankets for the Elderly and today I am finishing no. 34! The squares I have received have come from all over the world in around 17 or 18 countries and I have now received well over 1,000. This is from January of this year.
I would have been grateful for a traditional granny square, but SIBOL has given us all the urge to try out new patterns and ideas. We have a great group going. We have fun and everyone loves the project. We only have one challenge running at the moment the Jan Eaton Blanket Challenge, because we have just finished our Challenges for the year because of Christmas. This will allow me more time to get the blankets made and sorted for November when I am due to give them out. I started SIBOL purely for the blankets and its rather like an on-line Crocheting and Knitting group.

I love making the slide shows when the blankets are finished and I love making them to showcase SIBOLETTES Squares! I love also trying to photograph the squares when they come in because this gives everyone new ideas to try. It's nice on Flickr too because everyone takes the opportunity to say what they think about the patterns and colours!. I just love trying to photograph the squares in an interesting way, but of course now the weather is turning thats a bit difficult, because all the flowers are dying off! I am so pleased you enjoy looking at the squares on Flickr and of course SIBOL. I do hope you will be a regular visitor to SIBOL now you have found us.

Your Afghan is gorgeous, the colours are well co-ordinated and the pattern looks very interesting. I know the receiver will be love it and I am sure it will give a lot of comfort. Its so nice to wrap yourself up in a blanket when you are feeling out of sorts.

Congratulations on your blog Sharbysyd! Please contact me if you need any help. I am not brilliant at technology and have to ask myself at times, but I will always do my best to help you.

Thank you so much for the beautiful comments on SIBOL. I am sure you will get some new followers visit you now you have left a comment! That usually happens!
